Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Debuts, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that focused exclusively on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will meet again some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow
The feature will feature once again of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's Major Moment
The new Mario movie is set to release around the time of the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 promises to be a significant year for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
