Doris Included in Ireland Selection While McCarthy Omitted
Returning head coach the Ireland coach has selected skipper Caelan Doris in his Ireland roster for the fall internationals, however Joe McCarthy is absent.
Doris, who has not played since undergoing shoulder surgery in the start of May, recently returned to Leinster training, though his fitness is uncertain if he will be ready to face the All Blacks in Chicago on 1 November.
Second row Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the first British and Irish Lions Test against the Wallabies in July.
Ulster player Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are also absent due to fitness concerns, while full-back Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation following the summer tour.
Leinster forward McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only new member in the 34-man squad, but the Irish Rugby Football Union states new provincial duo Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped western province winger Bolton will head to Chicago as "backup".
Following facing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a repeat of their 2016 encounter, the team host the Brave Blossoms, the Wallabies and world title holders South Africa in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and there's an opportunity for the veteran members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and Portugal," said the coach, who returns to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to lead the British and Irish Lions to Australia.
In a mostly experienced squad, Leinster's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will once again compete for the first-choice fly-half position. The number 10 jersey is still available, with Prendergast and Crowley set to play against each other for the first time in Saturday's URC match at the Dublin venue.
Frawley is the third number 10 selected as Farrell opting against selecting the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, the Ireland boss has picked Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained the national side to the summer Test wins over Georgia and the Lobos. There is also a recall for the western province's Blade, chosen to teammate Murphy.
Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey form an experienced cohort of centre options. Jamie Osborne is a further choice in the centres, though the 23-year-old is also a frontrunner to deputise for Keenan at number 15.
Wingers James Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are named. The winger impressed on his national team debut over the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and the Lobos.
McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland pack. The loose-head prop has been in a couple of Leinster's three league matches so far and played in Ireland A's defeat by the English in the English city earlier this year.
The 22-year-old was included in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer squad, but did not earn a cap.
Southern province lock Thomas Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those Tests, is retained, and veteran Ulster lock Henderson returns after missing the summer matches.
Conan, who played in all three Lions Tests over the summer, is set to deputise for the captain if the skipper fails to recover fitness soon enough to face New Zealand.
The Ireland squad will assemble in Dublin on the start of the week before traveling to the US on the following day.
